MINUTES OF THE MIDLAND WALKABOUT CLUB MEETING, January 20, 2008, FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, ROOM 201, 5:00 P.M.

 

PRESENT: Alex Rose, Willard Raiffeisen, Jack Rogers, Pat Hunter, Walt & Linda McConathy, Sue Miller, Anne Severson, Taffy Armstrong, Larry Carpenter and Criss Kohl

 

Alex opened the meeting on time. Last month’s minutes, which had been e-mailed to members, was approved.

 

Alex gave the Treasurer’s report. Balance in our account is $1,537.73.

 

Anne audited the club’s transactions and bank statements and reported that everything was correct.

 

Alex received a letter from China concerning the 2008 Olympics. Anyone planning to attend can get information about volkssporting while visiting China.

 

Alex also received a thank you from H.A. Tuck for our donations to the Memorial Christian Food Bank. A motion was made to continue to encourage walk participants to bring a can of food to donate each time they take part in a scheduled walk. Motion made by Jack; seconded by Willard. Motion passed.

 

Alex asked if anyone was interested in organizing an AVA College Volkssporting course at Midland College. Willard was interested; Alex will help him in this endeavor.

 

Alex went over the list of committees, chairmen and members of each committee. Publicity needs a chairman; if anyone is interested, please contact Alex.

 

February’s Group Fun Walk was changed to Abilene as the San Angelo walks are not sanctioned yet. Don’t forget to bring food items for Memorial Christian Food Pantry.

 

Anyone interested in riding in the van to the March walks in Fredericksburg should contact Willard.

 

Alex, Anne and Linda will look over the by-laws and make recememdations for whatever revisions are necessary.

 

Alex would like everyone in the club to bring one new member into the club this year if at all possible. Friends or family can join us for the YRE walks even if they are not members.

 

Davis Mountain Preserve first Open Weekend is in March around spring break and they have scheduled a work week for the week of April 14th. Anyone interested in hiking &/or doing volunteer work on the trails contact Willard.

 

Alex did a program called "Volkssporting 101" to help new members understand how to mark their Event and Distance books.
